Political Ponders: What is it about Palin?

I’m sure the majority of GTR readers are voting for the Democratic Presidential nominee, at least that seems to be the way the vote leans with environmentally conscious citizens. Not that you can’t vote for the Republican ticket and be environmentally friendly, the two just don’t really go hand in hand, especially in this 2008 election.  Well, I’m counting on some of my readers leaning towards the Republican nominee, for the sole purpose of answering the following questions.

I have had several people mention to me that they “hate McCain but love Palin” or “would never have voted for McCain until Palin” or “were unsure about voting for McCain until Palin”, so tell me…  What do you love about Sarah Palin that would cause you to vote for the Republican Presidential candidate? Enough to essentially, change your mind about McCain?

I am honestly very curious about this. I can go as far to say that I’m baffled by Palin’s draw. It’s almost like she has some odd gravitational pull that is causing women to say “they can relate to her”. That brings me to my next question…  Is relating to a Presidential (or VP) nominee a good reason to give them your vote?

  1. For me, it boils down to that consistent comment many have said about electing another Republican for President: If you vote Republican you’re asking for 4 more years of the same thing. To me, electing McCain/Palin is quite the opposite. I like McCain mainly for his stance on defense. He has a consistent history of voting across partisan lines. When he said in his acceptance speech that he doesn’t work for a political party, he wasn’t just saying that because it’s the truth. He often votes for things that are unpopular because he genuinely believes they are good for the people. Additionally, he’s got quite the backbone and a major loyalty to his country. I like the fact that he’s a maverick and one with quite a temper. I also like Palin because she doesn’t seem like the typical female politician. She strikes me as such a mom that she’d sit in on Congressional hearings and take names! Those Congressmen & women who are falling asleep, I feel like she’d be the one to ask to see them in her office after the hearing! Ha ha! The combo of McCain and Palin will really shake things up on Capital Hill, I feel, because they honestly act like they don’t give a rats patoot if people don’t like them! I mean it’s nice if people do, but I think they have the country’s best interest at heart even if it might not be the popular thing to do. Although I feel like they may not have the heart of the environmentalist in mind, I really don’t think that any President does! At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself what the job of the President is, and that is Commander in Chief…to protect and defend our country. McCain strikes me as the type that if a terrorist marched into the White House, he would throw himself in harm’s way to protect everyone and go down fighting and I don’t get that vibe from Obama. Simply put, I just feel like McCain is going to protect my country and in turn, my family, from terrible things out there. As much as I want the government to step up and do their part in saving this environment, what environment is there to save if we’ve all been blasted to bits by evil? The concept of saving the planet and everything we can do to help, has to start at home with our kids and then moving to our schools and local governments and then move on from there to pass laws in Congress…the people who have the task of doing the little things that you and I find important because that’s their job. So if you really want change, start with getting the people out of Congress who are the real reason nothing’s being done! In my humble opinion… =)

I like the idea of the 1st woman in the White House. Women are usually more common sense approach to things. A woman is used to children unhappy with rules – much like voters who expect to perfect the world in 4 years or less. She has risen through the ranks of politics by saying what she thinks & doing what she says. It makes some voters mad but my children were often mad when I said no or said you will do something they thought they did not want to do.
She promises reform but not perfecting the world. Lots of talking going on in politics but only 3 can back up their talk with action & McCain, Palin & Biden are those 3 – so 2/2 is a McCain/Palin 2008 ticket for me.
